The Wexford Documentary Film Festival takes place over a weekend in September, every year, in the working fishing village of Kilmore Quay. Kilmore Quay is located in county Wexford on the south east coast of Ireland.
WDFF is a not-for-profit film festival, screening local, national and international films with a focus on works that explore social, political and environmental issues, including films that relate to maritime life and coastal communities. The festival hosts filmmakers from all over the world for the weekend, bringing locals and visitors together in this unique intimate village setting. The festival places an emphasis on post screening discussions between filmmakers, local organisations, politicians, activists and the film audience. It aims to promote filmmaking in the region with a series of workshops and masterclasses throughout the festival weekend. The WDFF aspires to be as accessible as possible and to date all film screenings and workshops have been free and open to the public.
Artists Andi McGarry and Augustine O Donoghue are the founder members and co- directors of Wexford Documentary Film Festival. The festival has grown in size and ambition over the years and is now organised by a festival team, made up of artists, filmmakers, local residents, including experts of different backgrounds and experience.
The festival endeavours to pay artists, filmmakers and invited guest speakers a fair price for their participation at the festival. It acknowledges the hard work, talent and the sheer magic created by the filmmakers that makes the festival such a success year after year.
